เรื่องราวเกิดขึ้นในช่วงปลายราชวงศ์ชิง เมื่อองค์ซูสีไทเฮาต้องการตามหาหญิงสาวนิรนามที่อยู่ในภาพปริศนา เพราะคิดว่าหญิงสาวคนนี้จะสามารถเปลี่ยนแปลงชะตากรรมของบ้านเมืองได้ แต่หญิงสาวผู้อยู่ในภาพนั้นกลับกลายเป็นปีศาจและได้พบรักกับทหารองครักษ์ของพระองค์ ทั้งคู่มีลูกสาวด้วยกันคือ เนี่ยชิงเฉิง ซึ่งเธอไม่รู้ว่าตนเองมีสายเลือดของปีศาจแฝงอยู่ เธอได้พบกับ หมิงเซีย
